… Says high turnout at Governor’s Cup proof of existing peace

Last Tuesday, right on the lush course of the Lamingo Golf Club in Jos, Plateau Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong, was overwhelmed with uncommon joy. The Governor was there to tee off the Governor’s Cup golf event but he was quickly taken aback at the crowd he met on ground. There were close to 200 professional golfers already doing golf battle with some 400 amateurs coming to join the game at the weekend.

“What I see on ground can only point to one thing” Lalong said. “This is we are enjoying total peace on the Plateau. Look at the crowd of golfers I am seeing, they are from everywhere across the country. If we are not enjoying genuine peace, they won’t be here. And this is what I keep saying about the game of golf. It brings people of all tribes together as one”.

Lalong even seized opportunity of the occasion to correct the misconception from everywhere that the game of golf is only meant for people with fat wallets with no space reserved for folks who live on breadline.

“Look around,” Lalong said sweeping his hands around the golf crowd on the course. “Tell me how many are really wealthy here? But look at everyone being treated as equals. This is what golf does. It’s leverage. No matter who you are we all submit to the same rules on the golf course. This is why I always call on our people to come to the course and engage themselves. There will always be space for everyone”.
