Saraki will definitely be impeached – Oshiomhole

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, says the time of Senate President Bukola Saraki is over  after defecting to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Oshiomhole said this in Abuja at a media briefing to react to the World Press Conference addressed by Senate President on Tuesday.

He said Saraki could not continue to lead the Senate, having moved to the minority party with 48 senators, stressing that he was trying to bring the scenario over the leadership of the Nigeria Governors Forum where 16 governors were said to be greater than 19.

He said the decision to talk with him was out of conviction as a presiding officer, adding that Saraki would be impeached according to law.

Oshiomhole said, “In any case, Saraki is not going to be the first senate president to be impeached and I doubt if he is going to be the last. But definitely he will be impeached according to law and democratic norms.

“The only way Saraki can avoid impeachment is for him to do what is honourable which again leads to the issue of character. We saw Senator Akpabio who was the PDP leader in the Senate, once he made up his mind to leave the PDP, even before announcing his defection, the first role is to inform the PDP as a man of honour that he is hereby resigning from this office. So, Senator Saraki has demonstrated neither character nor being a man of honour.”
