A constitutional lawyer, Sebastine Hon (SAN), has described the nullification of the August election in Kenya which returned President Uhuru Kenyatta as a victory for democracy and rule of law in Africa.
In a statement yesterday, Hon said the ruling which upheld the petition of the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, showed that Africans were beginning to “think out of the box now.”
While comparing the development to the defeat of then incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria and his voluntary concession, he noted that the democratic trend was most welcome and should spread like harmattan on the continent.
“Recent happenings on the political landscape of Africa, including the defeat of a sitting president, Goodluck Jonathan and his voluntary concession of defeat, all point to the fact that there is a positive upswing in African political thinking,” he said.
