The Korean ambassador to Nigeria, Lee In Tae, has urged the federal government to put emphasis on education to grow its economy.
He said this during a lecture on ‘Growing the Nigerian Economy Through Education: The South Korean Model’ at the University of Abuja recently.
The lecture was organized by the Center of Asian Studies of the institution.
The ambassador highlighted how much the high education rate in Korea had directly played a role in the nation becoming an IT hub and key player in e-governance.
He also revealed that 22,625 public servants have taken part in the mission’s capacity training in e-governance at the training centers established in Abuja.
In the efforts of helping the education level rise in Nigeria, the ambassador mentioned that Korea had invested an amount of $5 million in Borno state, most especially to women and girls.
“The Korea-Nigeria bilateral relations have also led to the construction of the Abuja Model School for $15 million,” Tae said.
The deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration, Prof. Adams Sani, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael U. Adikwu, noted the university’s appreciation and expressed looking forward for a “fruitful and prosperous relationship with Korea.”
