Former Nigerian goalkeeper and coach, Joe Erico has said Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr can’t be forced to invite Nigeria Professional Football League players for national team duties.
Erico also said that Nigeria should have won the World Cup if there had been proper organization in the years past in a chat with Daily Trust on Sunday.
“Prophets don’t have values in their homes. We have done a good job as indigenous coaches. We have used home boys to qualify for competitions. I am aware that part of the requirement is to use home-based players but you can’t force him to use them if they are not up to the required standard.
“But we have good home-based players who can challenge the foreign-based players for shirts. In my own time, home-based players were used to play friendly games, Nations Cup etc,” he said.
He also said Nigeria at this stage should not be thinking of just qualifying for the World Cup but winning it.
“If we are well organized from 1985, we should be thinking of winning the World Cup or even defending it. We should be a consistent nation, not just thinking of qualifying for the World Cup. The target is good for him and the players to work harder,” he said.
