A video editor and camera man with SaharaReporters, Victor Ogungbenro, was on Monday arrested alongside eight other protesters by a combined team of soldiers and police officers deployed to thwart the planned ‘RevolutionNow’ protest.
Our correspondent observed that the protesters, mostly students and members of different civil rights groups, arrived the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, venue of the rally as early as 7am.
Security operatives dispersed them with canisters and whisked those arrested into the waiting Black Marias of the taskforce.
Alex Omotehinse, the Lagos State Chairman of the Committee for the
Defence of Human Rights, who was among the protesters, said if the policemen deployed to disperse “harmless protesters” had been deployed to fight insurgents, “Nigeria would have been freed from insecurity.”
