Former Director, Military Intelligence (DMI) retired Major General U. T. Umar has been released about three days after he was kidnapped.
Daily Trust learnt from sources that the retired military officer, who is now a consultant in Abuja, was kidnapped on his way to Abuja from Katsina State where he attended the Grand Finale rally of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Umar who came to Katsina by air was said to have lost his seat for the return flight and chose to follow the road the next day by hiring an early morning car to Abuja,” one of the sources told Daily Trust yesterday.
The source also confirmed that the retired officer had been released by the kidnappers, but could not say whether ransom was paid before he was freed.
When contacted, the spokesman of Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, said “The police command does not have such report.”
Also, the Army spokesman Colonel Sagir Musa neither answered calls to the mobile phone number nor replied to a text message sent to him on the issue.
Daily Trust reports that retired Major General Umar hails from Nasarawa State.
