After two years of living in darkness, hope rises for over 12 villages in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State as rehabilitation of faulty electricity supply lines to the communities commences.
The affected villages are: Gandi, Gumbi, Barkeji, Baga, Kaurar Malam Garba, Yar Abba, Gidan Bobiri, Kammata, Fanfare, Gidan Yaggo, Sabon garin Arkilla and Gidan Ali.
The prevailing electricity situation was noted to have negatively affected the socio-economic lives of residents of the areas.
The lawmaker representing Sokoto-North Senatorial District, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, who is embarking on the project, said, “electricity is very crucial in enhancing the lives of individuals, as such, its dearth will have colossal negative consequences on their lives.’’
He added that the gesture was in continuation of efforts to uplift the living standard of the entire people of Sokoto State.
The rehabilitation work was flagged off by the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government, Alhaji Bello Buba Kaurar-Kimba on behalf of Senator Wamakko.
A former Vice Chairman of Wamakko Local Government who is spokesman of the benefiting communities, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Gumbi, said the electricity problem had caused untold hardship to thousands of residents.
