Refugees commission launches support for durable solution to IDPs

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), has launched humanitarian support programme to provide solution to IDPs in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states.

The Federal Commissioner of the Commission, Mrs. Sadiya Umar-Farouq, disclosed weekend while flagging-off the distribution of trade materials, food, drugs and sanitary materials in Damaturu, that the first phase of the programme would be to supply both food and non-food items as succor to the IDPs.

“Subsequently, we are going to focus on our main mandate of providing durable solutions through empowerment in those areas declared safe by security agents for the returnees to be self-reliant,” she said.

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by his deputy, Engr Abubakar Aliyu, who is also the Chairman of the rehabilitation, reconstruction and relocation of IDPs in the state, said that Yobe was the second most hit state after Borno in terms of destruction of public and private properties.
