The Council of Imams and Ulama, Kaduna state chapter has viewed the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by the United States president, Donald Trump as transitory, saying sooner or later the occupation of Palestinians lands will become history.
President Trump had announced last Wednesday that the US will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and that he will move the American embassy there once a location is secured.
The president argued that since 1995, when Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act, his predecessors had delayed implementing the act because of fears that it would harm efforts to achieve a peace agreement in the Middle East.
However, the council in a press release signed by its Chairman and Secretary General, Shaykh Usman Abubakar Babantine and Ustaz Yusuf Yakubu Arrigasiyyu respectively and issued in Kaduna on Monday condemned the action.
They said, “Although the announcement on Wednesday did not come to the council as a surprise based on the fact that for long, the US and its allies have been playing double-standards in mediating the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.”
They cautioned the United States particularly Donald Trump of the disastrous consequences that might follow the recognition of Qudus as the capital city of Israel.
They called on the generality of Muslims worldwide to continue to pray fervently for Allah’s intervention and to unite against the injustice with a view to salvage Palestinians against the ‘devilish act of the Zionist’.
They urged the Nigerian government to join other world nations in condemning the ferocious declaration of Trump.
