It is true that Nigerian children are faced with some challenges ranging from illiteracy, mal-nutrition child labour etc, which all need to be redressed and their rights to be respected, as no one would be happy to see his child in such a bondage undisputably triggered most of the times by abject poverty. This is because good dreams of a country can only be accomplished when there are better plans for its future leaders.
However, what Esther failed to understand is that some contents of the Child’s Right Act clearly contradicts the beliefs and teachings of some religious dictates. How I wish the writer, after an objective assessment, makes a prudent and promising suggestion especially in the area of contention and perhaps ,the controversial sections in the child’s Right Act to prevent any form of public outcry against it, in lieu of capitalizing much on how their future would be which is in no one’s hand but God.
I would finally remind Esther Afolayan and her co-associates that individuals’ freedom of religious belief and practices need to as well be recognized and respected for Nigeria to grow as a nation.
