The trio of Enugu Rangers, Enyimba FC and Katsina United emerged the best performers after yesterday’s NPFL MatchDay 25 as they recorded crucial away victories to brighten their chances in the race for this year’s NPFL title.
Meanwhile, Plateau United 2-1 winners over visiting Kwara United remain at the top of the table even as Rivers United in a routine 3-0 win over Warri Wolves are keeping the pressure on them.
In Uyo, it was a goal fest as Rangers defeated Dakkarda FC 3-2 to return to the top 5 of the NPFL for the first time this season.
There was also another crucial away win for defending champions Enyimba as they defeated struggling Adamawa United 2-0 at the Pantami Stadium Gombe.
Stanley Dimgba and Cyril Olisema scored in either half to ensure victory for the defending champions.
At the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, 2nd placed Rivers United kept up the pressure on Plateau United with a routine 2-0 win over Warri Wolves.
A brace from Malachi Ohawume and another goal from Kunle Odunlami ensured that the Pride of Rivers returned to winning ways after losing to Enugu Rangers last Sunday.
They remain four points behind league leaders Plateau United while Warri Wolves are fifteenth, one point from the relegation zone.
Lobi Stars of Makurdi also returned to winning ways as they battled to a 1-0 victory over visiting FC IfeanyiUbah courtesy of Samadi Kadiri’s strike in the 5th minute.
Meanwhile, Kano Pillars suffered their sixth loss of the season as they fell by a lone goal at Wikki Tourists in Bauchi with captain Idris Guda Mohammed scoring the only goal from the spot in the 55th minute.
In Lagos, Abia Warriors fell the superior power of MFM, losing 2-1 just as Nasarawa Utd returned home to play goalless with Akwa United.
Katsina United also recorded their first away victory as they defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1 in Akure just as Jigawa Golden Stars struggled to a 2-1 win over visiting Heartland FC.
