Cool Fm, Wazobia Fm and Arewa Radio have staged a peaceful road walk against the vote buying menace in electioneering process.
The campaign tagged ‘’don’t sell your vote, your vote is your power” began live on air waves of the radio stations and later extended to the general public, targeted over five million voters in Kano.
The walk began from the radio station’s office in Tarauni Local Government Area through Sabongari, Zaria Road, Naibawa and Hadeja Road among other strategic locations within the metropolis.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the six-hour road walk, the Head of the trio Radio Stations, Prince Daniel Aboki said about 60,000 flyers were distributed to the potential voters within the city as a wake-up call to all eligible voters.
Aboki said to ensure that the message was understood by all the targeted voters regardless of their level of education, the flyers were printed in English, Pidgin and Hausa languages representing the symbol for communication of Cool Fm in English, Wazobia Fm in Pidgin and Arewa Radio in Hausa.
Aboki, who was represented by his co- host on Wazobia FM’s Make Una Wake Up Show, Moses Nongoatse (a.k.a Ajebo), the head of the stations, stressed the need for all electorate to shun vote buying and selling as well as any form of electoral violence before, during and after the elections.
“This is part of the radio station’s corporate social responsibilities to address the issue of vote buying. We are on the streets of Kano, we have distributed 60,000 flyers and 4,000 stickers to tell everybody that, look, N1,000 is not worth your vote because by the time you divide it by four years you will know that you have sold yourself into slavery”, he explained.
