A quack doctor employed by Adamawa State Government was alleged to have caused the death of 15 patients.
The doctor, who holds the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) certificate, was said to performed several surgeries in the last five years he had worked at cottage hospitals in Mayo-Belwa and Fufore Local Government Areas.
He was alleged to have used fake documents to secure the employment.
When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, yesterday said he did not have the details yet.
But a security source confirmed that the suspect had been arrested by the Directorate of State Service (DSS) in Yola.
“The suspect is still in detention ar the DSS office in Yola and he may be paraded soon. His name is Ibrahim Mustapha”, said an official who spoke under anonymity.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, while receiving officials of the state Hospitals Management Board yesterday, expressed concern over the incident.
“I am highly disturbed with this unhealthy development that led to death of about 15 persons. No, this government will not take it kindly; whoever is involved must face the wrath of law. This is wickedness and government will not condone it”, he vowed.
The governor said he would appoint a committee to sanitize the medical profession in the state.
