Pro PDP group, APC bicker over Rivers LG polls

A pro PDP group in Rivers State, Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) and the Rivers State chapter of the APC are bickering over the June 16, local government elections in the state. The APC in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone, said it was  miffed and disturbed that since the nomination process for the local government elections for chairmen and councillors by the PDP began, shootings and maiming had resumed across Rivers State.

The party noted that it was shocking to observe that “mere primaries” for chairmen and councillors for local councils’ elections would result in “large scale shootings, maiming and violence.”

The APC noted that the alleged orgy of violence underscored its consistent position that Gov. Wike and the PDP were responsible for the series of violence that bedeviled the state before and after the 2015 general elections.

However, the Secretary General of GDI, Sam Nwanosike, dismissed APC’s statement as “misguided and ranting of an unpopular party in the state.

Nwanosike advised that APC should bother itself with mass defection that had affected the party in recent times; saying more than 48,000 APC members had defected to PDP.

He also dismissed the allegation that Gov. Wike was behind series of violence in the state, saying he had built a lasting legacy that would stand the test of time in the state.
