A senatorial aspirant on the platform of the APC in Kogi State, Dr. Williams Toyin Akanle, yesterday, denied leaving the ruling party.
Dr. Akanle, who contested in the Kogi West Senatorial District primary with Sen. Smart Adeyemi, said the rumour that he had left the APC, first to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), then to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and lately to the Accord Party (AP), was the handiwork of his political detractors who were threatened by his rising political profile.
The aspirant said in a statement which he personally signed that he remained in the APC despite his appeal against the outcome of the senatorial primary.
He said after contributing to the growth and development of the party he would not dump it as the 2019 general elections approached.
He called on Nigerians and party members to ignore such misinformation, saying “whatever it is intended to achieve, there is no iota of truth in all this and should therefore be outrightly disregarded.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I hereby state emphatically that I still remain a bona fide member of the APC notwithstanding the fact that I have issues with the party arising from the sham of a purported party primary of October 3, 2018, in which I contested for the Kogi West seat.
“As a loyal party member, I have complied with the party’s internal mechanism for seeking redress by forwarding a petition to the National Chairman of the party, Com. Adams Oshiomhole, and the National Appeal Committee headed by Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor.
“My purported defection from the APC is nothing but the mere wishful thinking of my political detractors who will not stop at anything to achieve their inglorious political goals,” he said.
