Trains on the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge services are presently facing technical problems that have led to breakdown of sanitation on several coaches, Daily Trust can report.
Our correspondent who monitored the train services in the past few days observed that the several toilets on the trains were not functional due to lack of water.
This was even as ticket racketeering persisted at the Rigasa Station in Kaduna.
Last Friday, passengers that boarded the AK1 Express train that departed the Idu Station in Abuja at 7am to the Rigasa Station in Kaduna faced difficulties in having access to toilets.
It was observed that most toilets on the Second Class were not functional as only those located at the VIP coaches were in use.
Passengers from other coaches had to throng to the VIP section and queue to use the toilets.
When our correspondent asked the station manager at Rigasa on the situation, he said his responsibility was to take care of the facilities at the station.
But another official, who did not want to be named said the problem was due to a mechanical problem and that it would be resolved that day.
“The toilets have been working, but it’s just that we have short time for maintenance since we run from morning till night. Maybe it was last (Thursday) night that the system developed fault,” the official said and urged our correspondent to write to the spokesman of the Nigeria Railway Corporation for official response.
However, when our correspondent boarded the train yesterday from Kaduna to Abuja, most of the toilets were still non-functional.
