Polio immunisation has began in Mafa and Damasak, the headquarters of Mafa and Mobbar local government areas of Borno state respectively.
Flagging off the exercise at Damsak, the Mobbar LG Secretary, Alhaji Wakil Mallam-Tawu, urged parents to bring their children forward for the vaccination.
“The exercise is aimed at making the area free from polio, Mallam-Tawu said, calling on the programme’s personnel to be dedicated to their duties at all the times.
“I assure you of the Council’s commitments to provide you with all necessary working tools towards the success of the exercise,” he told the personnel during the flagg-off ceremony.
“All logistics and allowances of personnel have been settled,” the Director Primary Healthcare of the LG, Bukar Mai Abatcha told the Secretary, assuring of the success of the exercise.
In Mafa town, a house-to-house immunisation exercise for children below five years is being conducted.
The Mafa LG Secretary, Muhammad Lawan Sheriff, while monitoring exercise, cautioned parents and guardians from resisting to heed the call for embracing the immunisation against polio.
“The vaccine is safe and effective and resistance is depriving the child of its right to healthy and quality life,” Sheriff said, adding that a decisive action will be taken against any parent or guardian who resists the immunisation.
The secretary also commended the health personnel for their commitment to make sure every child is vaccined.
