The police in Lagos State have arrested a suspected armed robber, Adewumi Sodiq, 19, in possession of two cut-to-size rifles and six rounds of ammunitions.
The suspect was arrested by detectives attached to Area D Command at the weekend while he and members of his gang were allegedly sighted robbing members of the public of their valuables.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident said at about 12.30pm, information was received from a credible source that some armed robbers were sighted in a Volkswagen Golf saloon car in Lagos taxi colour, attempting to rob unsuspecting victims of their valuables along Oshodi-Mushin road, Lagos.
He said based on the information, a combined team of operatives from Alakara Police Station and those from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja swung into action and trailed the said car.
According to him, on sighting the operatives, the robbers quickly jumped down and took to their heels but that luck ran against one of them who was arrested right inside the vehicle.
Oti said the suspect gave his name as Adewumi Sodiq and that when he was searched, a cut-to-size locally made pistol with three live cartridges were recovered from him.
“He was later taken to his house for further search, during which another cut-to-size locally made single barrel gun was recovered with three live cartridges, bringing the total number of guns recovered to two locally made guns and six live cartridges.
“During interrogation, he confessed that he was a member of the gang terrorizing Mushin and environs.
“Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting fleeing members of the gang. The suspects so far arrested will be charged to court,” he added.
