The police in Benue State, yesterday, paraded a man for allegedly killing the lover of his ex-wife in Wurukum area of Makurdi, the state capital.
The State Commissioner of Police, Omololu Bishi, who paraded the suspect with 31 others for various crimes, said the arrests were made within the past two weeks of his resumption of duty in the state.
He said the suspect, Bunde Goja, went to the house of his ex-wife’s father where the deceased, who was said to be her new husband, had spent the night.
Bishi disclosed that the suspect used a club and acid to commit the murder.
But, Goja in an interview with our correspondent said he went to his ex-wife’s house at about 9:00pm to check on their three children as usual during which process the deceased came out with a machete so he defended himself.
“I didn’t go there to kill the man. I went to look for my wife and our three children. The woman had left me for about six months but I still take care of them; I even spent N70,000 on them for Christmas.
“The man just came out with a machete and started shouting thief, thief, then he cut part of my head with the cutlass in his hand so I used a club to hit him and poured acid on his head. My wife is the cause of my calamity,” he said.
