The police in Anambra State have arrested 69 suspected cultists.
The spokesman of the police command, SP Harunna Muhammed, in a statement yesterday, said the command’s Special Anti Cult Unit (SPACS), in conjunction with Operation Puff Adder, carried out raids across various locations in the state that led to the arrests within one week.
He gave the break down as follows, “On 20/05/2019 at Omor axis, 12 suspected cultists were arrested, while seven were arrested on 21/05/2019 at Nteje axis.
“On 22/05/2019 at Igbariam, eight suspected cultists were arrested and 11 were arrested on 23/05/2019 at Nnewi.
“On 24/05/19, at Ogidi, seven other suspected cultists were arrested, while on 25/05/2019, at Obosi/Awada/Nkpor/Ezinifite, 22 suspected cultists were arrested and at Ebenebe, two were arrested.”
SP Muhammed said out of the 69 suspects arrested, 22 were screened out, while 22 others were charged to court and 10 were placed under police supervision for being underaged, while 15 were still under investigation.
He added that one of the suspects, Osazua Austin (27) of Oba in Idemili North LGA, arrested in possession of a double barrel locally made pistol, was assisting the police with useful information that would lead to the arrest of other members.
