A Deputy Inspector-General of Police assigned for election monitoring in the north-central zone, Godwin Nwobodo, has warned members of vigilante group in Kogi State to keep off election duties.
He gave the warning yesterday in Lokoja during a meeting with traditional rulers and political party stakeholders held at the Kogi State Police Command.
According to him, only policemen and other security agents duly accredited to provide security during the general election will be allowed to do so, stressing that members of the vigilante group will not be allowed to go on patrol.
He also warned that the police would not hesitate to deal with thugs and elements that would want to disrupt the smooth conduct of the forthcoming general elections.
He said that adequate security would be provided across the state to ensure peaceful conduct of the election.
