The police in Zamfara State have averted an attack on Tangaram community in Anka LGA killing one of the attackers in a gun duel. The scene and its environ have been subjected to coordinated bush combing to effect the arrest of the fleeing hoodlums while one AK-47 rifle with 16 rounds of live ammunition have been recovered.
The spokesman of the police command in the state, SP Muhammad Shehu, said the command also recovered 73 stolen motorcycles and arrested 72 suspected armed robbers who specialized in motorcycle theft in the state.
He said the arrest followed massive raid on some identified criminal hideouts in the state.
“In view of the activities of armed bandits that are using unregistered motorcycles to ferry kidnapped victims to their hideouts, the Zamfara State Police Command has embarked on massive intelligence-led raids in some identified criminal hideouts in the state,” he said.
He said all the suspects were in police custody undergoing interrogation and they would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigation is completed. Shehu called on members of the public who lost their motorcycles to criminals, either by armed robbery or theft, to come to the police command headquarters for verification of rightful ownership.
