PDP’s expulsion of Kashamu, Dayo unlawful — Court

An FCT High Court in Apo has voided and declared as unlawful the People Democratic Party’s (PDP) expulsion of Senator Buruji Kashamu and former Ogun State chairman of the party, Engr Adebayo Dayo.

In a counter-claim before the court, Kashamu and Dayo had prayed for “an order restraining the plaintiffs (PDP) by themselves, their agents, servants and privies from taking any disciplinary action against the 1st – 4th defendants on account of any actions and/or conduct or steps taken by them individually and jointly to make the plaintiff abide by its constitution and observe democratic principles in all its dealings with the 1st-4th defendants.”

Delivering the ruling, yesterday, Justice Valentine Ashi held that the purported expulsion was unlawful because it was done in disobedience of a subsisting order of the court made on December 7, 2017, which was restated on January 9, 2018, directing parties not to do anything to jeopardise the hearing of the pending case but maintain the status quo.

The judge thereafter set aside the PDP’s letter, dated August 1, 2018 conveying the expulsion to Kashamu and Dayo.
