PDP rejects INEC”s 8-man probe panel on underage voting

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the composition and scope of the eight-man in-house panel set up by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the allegations of underage voters, in Kano and Katsina States.

It was alleged that the recently held Local Council polls in Kano and the House of Representatives bye-election in Katsina States were characterized by under-age voting, hence the need for the probe panel.

But the PDP argued that the All Progressives Congress’ defence of INEC on the matter further confirmed that the ruling party had vested interest in the "illegality."

The PDP in a statement on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said the panel constituted by INEC lacks credibility as it comprises officials of the Commission.

He said the committee had been detailed to arrive at predetermined findings in INEC’s favour.
