The Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Council in Benue State, Francis Ayagah, yesterday, denied report that he was punished by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for chanting All Progressives Congress (APC) at a PDP rally in his domain.
Ayagah was alleged to have incurred the wrath of the PDP supporters last Friday when he screamed “A-P-C-” on stage at a rally organised by Governor Samuel Ortom’s wife, Eunice, for the re-election bid of her husband on the platform of PDP.
Our correspondent gathered that the chairman, who was elected on the platform of the APC, defected to PDP alongside some of his colleagues in the wake of Ortom’s return to his old political party.
It was learnt that the chairman, when he was called upon to deliver his goodwill message during the rally, mounted the podium and shouted A-P-C twice in error to the surprise of the crowd, some of who attempted to lynch him but for the intervention of the state first lady.
But, Ayagah told our correspondent, yesterday, by telephone that no punishment was meted out to him by the PDP over what he described as “slip of tongue” and neither was he at any time made to kneel and apologise to the party elders over the mistake.
“I did apologise to the gathering immediately at the venue and they accepted.
