The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed Governor Nyesom Wike’s allegation that the committee set up by the board to probe the emergence of Rep Ndudi Elumelu as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives against the wish of the party was corrupt.
Wike had in Port Harcourt said the Iyorchia Ayu-led panel was corrupt and hailed a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara, for withdrawing his membership of the committee.
But the BoT chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, dismissed the claim yesterday in a statement explaining that a clean bill of health was not yet passed on Elumelu until the BoT meets next week to reach a decision.
Jibrin argued that, that the Ayu committee had submitted its report didn’t mean that Elumelu and other “erring” members of the House of Representatives were set free, adding that the Disciplinary Committee headed by Chief Tom Ikimi was also on ground to perform its role.
Similarly, the BoT Secretary and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, who is also heading one of the committees said,”Permit me to make it abundantly clear to our performing Governor of Rivers State that Wabara is not corrupt and that I do not think that all the other distinguished members of this committee are corrupt.”
