The Lagos governorship candidate of the PDP, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has chosen a female lawyer, Mrs. Haleemat Oluwayemisi Busari, as his running mate for the 2019 gubernatorial race.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the Jimi Agbaje Campaign Organisation (JACO), Felix Oboagwina, in a statement said the PDP candidate picked Mrs. Busari following comprehensive consultations with leaders and stakeholders within and outside the party.
However, Daily Trust can report that there was division among some party leaders over the choice of the running mate.
A party leader who spoke with our correspondent yesterday, said, “I am not aware of her selection; I am not even aware if she is a member of our party.”
But Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe said he was aware of the appointment of Mrs. Busari, pointing out she was well qualified for the job.
Our correspondent gathered that the division over the choice of running mate was the fall-out of the lingering crisis of confidence within the party with some stakeholders speaking in different tones.
The statement announcing her selection said: “Mrs. Oluwayemisi Haleemat Busari came highly recommended and widely endorsed.
“Stakeholders all agree that without any iota of doubt, the Jimi-Haleemat combination is a winning ticket on every count.”
Married to Teslim Olatunde Busari, SAN, Haleemat was born in 1964 to the family of late Ahmed Tijani Shehu Giwa, a businessman and Vice President of Jama’atul Islamiyya of Nigeria from Epe, and late Mrs. Mujibat Abeni Mopelola Giwa (nee Shonibare), a princess of the Kosoko royal family from Isale Eko.
