‘Patience Jonathan shelves rally in Nasarawa over Maku’

Sources within the PDP in the state told Daily Trust that Patience was believed to be working for Labaran Maku, former information minister, who defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from the PDP and became the party’s governorship candidate.
Sources said visiting Lafia for the rally which the First Lady is leading women across the country to drum support for her husband’s  reelection would have boosted the chances of the state PDP governorship candidate, Yusuf Agabi, in the race.
But the crowd of party supporters that gathered at the Lafia City Hall, venue of the campaign rally, at about 8:00am, were told by the Jonathan campaign coordinator Dameshi Barau Luka and the state governorship campaign coordinator, Senator Solomon Ewuga (Nasarawa-North) around 2:00pm that the event was shelved because bad weather prevented her from travelling to Lafia.
A source said: “We learnt the first lady did not come because her coming would have boosted the campaign for the PDP governorship candidate. We believe Maku is her candidate, so she didn’t want to come and spoil Maku’s chances by asking women to vote for the PDP at the governorship election.”
But in his reaction, the state’s PDP spokesman, Yohanna Mark Neto said: “It is unthinkable for anybody to say the first lady failed to come because her candidate is Maku. It is unthinkable, too, for the first lady to be considering Maku instead of the party’s governorship candidate.”
H added that the president’s wife was with the party and its governorship candidate.
