A man, said to be a pastor and his follower, escaped being mobbed by some youths at Tungan-Maje town near Zuba, Abuja, while performing a ritual at an isolated area on a six-year-old girl.
The little girl, Aso Chronicle learnt, is the daughter of the other man, whom witnesses said was a disciple of the pastor.
The duo had taken the girl along with an earthen pot and pieces of black cloth among others to an isolated area around 9pm for the ritual penultimate Monday.
It was gathered that, while they were carrying out the ritual, some residents came across them and raised an alarm which attracted some youths in the area who descended on them but that some vigilante members intervened and saved them from being lynched.
Our reporter learnt that the suspects were later handed over to the police in Zuba.
Speaking to our reporter, the mother of the girl told the crowd that she was aware of the mission and begged the mob to spare her husband’s and the other man’s lives.
“The action taken by the two persons, was because of the persistent complaint by our daughter that she had nightmares in which she would see her hands tied with black attires, and a black pot near her in isolated places.
“I narrated the matter to my pastor who advised me to make the items available so that he would deliver her.
“Also speaking, the pastor, who described the ritual as “Sabatharian”, explained that the girl could easily be delivered through them, maintaining that he had conducted many of such deliverances.
Reacting, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Zuba, CSP Muhammad Yahaya, said following their intervention, the pastor was taken to a clinic where he spent the night, while the girl’s parents were kept in police custody, pending when the crowd would have calmed down.
