Over 200 children, adults protest displacement in Ebonyi

Over 200 children from Mgbo-Agbaja village, Izzi local government area of Ebonyi state yesterday kept from school to protest against alleged plan by the state government to displace them of their original land.

Also among them were elderly women and men who in their placards told the state governor, Engr. David Umahi, that those behind the plan meant no good for the indigenes of the area.

The protesters blocked the state government house gate at the early hours of yesterday amidst tight security by operatives for the  arrival of former President Olusegun Obasanjo for zero hunger project.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Jude Ogbaga said, “We don’t have land because we suffered the same thing in past  administration led by Martin Elechi when great portion of our land was taken away from us for the development of the capital city.

“So our prayers to the governor is for him to leave our land for us because we don’t have enough.”

When contacted over the development, the council chairman of Izzi local government reiterated that the issue was such that he inherited but noted that government had no intention of taking any land by force.
