Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has decried the rising cases of crime and insecurity in the state.
Ortom, who made this known when he swore-in to office the 23 newly elected council chairmen in the state, said he was worried that the negativities have direct effect on the peaceful development of the state.
“You must bear in mind that the days of playing politics are over. Now is the time to concentrate on giving the electorate quality service because that is the reason for giving you their mandate,” he said.
He charged the new chairmen to live with their people in their various localities and not discharge their duties from outside their council areas.
The governor said that their election was a proof of the peoples’ confidence in them and in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which they must justify.
Responding, the chairperson of Vandeikya Local Government Area, Kukase Garba, on behalf of her other colleagues, pledged total commitment to duties and responsibilities.
