Only community policing can guarantee security – DIG

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of research and planning, Force Headquarters, Christopher Katso said the police have adopted community type of policing as the most effective way of guaranteeing security in the entire country.
DIG Katso stated this in Lafia last Thursday during an interactive session with officials of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) in continuation of his tour of Police formations in the North-Central geo-political zone.
He stressed that the change in policing strategy has become imperative considering the fact that the police alone cannot achieve success in its mandate of providing security without the support and cooperation of members of the community.
He maintained that the police high command has “changed the concept of policing in Nigeria in line with global best practices where policing has been given back to the masses” and called on the public to champion this new concept.
The DIG who described information as a critical tool in effective policing, called on members of the public to always provide the police with useful information that would ensure a safe and secured society promising to keep the identities of those who help with such information confidential.
In his remarks, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Sani Mohammed, said the state command has gained a lot from its partnership with the PCRC, adding that useful information they have been providing led to the arrest of incessant robbery incidents along Lafia- Makurdi highway.
