Only Buhari will make me dump APC, says Tejuoso

The Senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly, Lanre Tejuoso on Monday insisted that he would not dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) unless President Muhammadu Buhari leaves the party.

The legislator, who spoke with journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State while declaring his intention to recontest said he remains in the party.

He also affirmed his support for direct primaries as a mode of electing party’s candidates ahead of 2019 elections.

Tejuoso alongside 15 Senators had earlier announced defection from the ruling APC via a letter read by Senate President, Bukola Saraki on the floor, but made a U-turn in less than 48 hours.

The legislator disclosed that what led to the defection was just a mere misunderstanding between him and the party at the local level, which he said, has since been resolved.

“I cannot leave APC. I will only leave if President Buhari leaves. When the incident happened, Mr President called me and told me he wants me back in the party. What happened is just a misunderstanding in the local level and it has been resolved,” Tejuoso said.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Health however supported direct primary for the party’s primaries both at the national and state levels, saying it would help all the party members to choose the candidates of their choice.

Tejuoso also denied rumoured rift between him and Governor Ibikunle Amosun over senatorial ticket, describing the governor as his leader and mentor.
