Omoniyi said in an interview in Akure, that regular competitions would help to bring about improvements in the standard and rankings of the players.
It would also help them to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
The National junior coach said taking part in competitions, local and international, would afford them the opportunities of improving on their games.
“We have good grassroots developmental programmes in this state (Ondo), to discover new and young talents.
“When they do not attend competitions, they are not utilised and they are not likely to have rich experiences beyond what they have learned at home,” he said.
Meanwhile, Omoniyi noted that the weekly Table Tennis Classics introduced by the association in the state are part of plans to improve on the experiences of the state and its players.
“I want to thank the state government for its assistance in sponsoring our players for some international competitions, but all the same, we still need more to ensure their mental alertness for games.
“We introduced the weekly classics, sponsored by one of our board members, for boys, while the girls’ category will be introduced later.”
The competition is being sponsored by Adam Chandy, a board member of the Ondo State Table Tennis Association. (NAN)
