The former captain of the team made this observation in a chat with Trustsports in Lagos that given adequate support and necessary defensive tips, Eagles defenders would develop more confidence in themselves and that would be in the interest of the team.
In addition, he remarked that once the defence line is filled with serious and purposeful players there would be no worry for the team since they would be capable of holding any threat from the opposing strikers as well as frustrating their efforts goal scoring effort.
The former Fenerbahce of Turkey player said “for the Eagles to make great impact in their quest to qualify for the world cup in South Africa 2010, the defence line of the team must be well motivated because they are the last resort for the team. If the coaching crew could fill the vacuum left behind during our playing days with same quality, definitely the team will be a force to reckon with”.
Speaking on the present Eagles, Okechukwu assured that at the end of the qualifiers for 2010 World Cup, Nigeria’s green white green flag would be hoisted in South Africa because nothing will stop the team from picking the group ticket ahead of Tunisia.
“I have one hundred percent confidence that the Super Eagles will definitely qualify for the world cup next year having reached this crucial stage of the qualifiers. Nothing will stop the team from making it to the event as every players ambition is to play for his fatherland at the global event”, he said.
“During our playing days we all played as a team and there was no disparity or sentiment among the players at all, and I expect such from the team as well. Coaches and players were just like brothers and our successes could be attributed to nothing other than the unity we created for ourselves” he noted.
