Thirty Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the aegis of the Accountability in the Extractive Sector (AES) Cluster of the Strengthening Advocacy and Civic Engagement (SACE project) have raise alarm over the slow progress and the N730m budgeted for oil and gas reform in the country.
The Executive Director of CISLAC Auwal Musa Rafsanjani who spoke on behalf of the AES Cluster told reporters Tuesday in Abuja that the present federal administration promised commitment to the implementation of reforms to enhance transparency, accountability and efficiency in the oil and gas sector including the Short and Medium Term Priorities to grow Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry 2015-2019 also called "7 Big Wins" which was unveiled in October 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari with fanfare and media hype.
Rafsanjani represented by the Policy and Legislative Advocacy Officer of CISLAC Kolawole Banwo said that in the 7 Big Wins, the government committed to collaborating with the National Assembly to conclude and pass the Petroleum Industry Reform Bill and Petroleum Fiscal Reform Bill by December 2016 and draft new regulations consistent with and wondered why after one year past the timeline this is yet to be accomplished.
