A coalition of accredited INEC observers has called on winners and losers of the just concluded rerun election in Kano State to respect the rule of law.
Addressing a press conference, yesterday, in Kano, Dr Ibrahim Baba, who spoke on behalf of all the civil society organisations (CSOs), urged political leaders from both sides to call on their supporters to be peaceful and law abiding.
Baba also charged politicians to refrain from disseminating false information and channel electoral complaints and grievances through established legal process.
“We are calling on INEC to collaborate more effectively with the police to investigate electoral offenders and apply appropriate sanctions on any persons or group of persons found culpable to serve as deterrent in subsequent elections,” he said.
Dr Baba said despite reports of violence and intimidation, the political climate in the state during the rerun poll was peaceful.
He said the coalition was impressive with the security agencies maintaining high level of professionalism before during and after the conduct of the election.
