The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has ordered demolition of an unauthorised village shrine, ogue-edion as well as sealing of the village market at Igbekhuen in Orhrionwmen Local Government Areas of Edo State.
He was presiding over matters affecting individuals, villages and groups in the Bini Kingdom.
Elders of the community were said to have complained about the unauthorized establishment of the second village shrine by a group led by one Imarenakhue Imasuen.
The monarch said it is contrary to traditions and norms for individuals or a group of persons to unilaterally establish village shrines and markets without getting clearance from the palace of the Oba of Benin.
He delegated two top palace functionaries to immediately effect the order.
The village head of Igbekhuen, Oghomwenrughaen Omoruyi, promised to work with the palace authority in ensuring lasting peace in the village.
