Aggrieved students of School of Nursing, Iyienu Mission Hospital, Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have protested against the death of one of their students, Emmanuel Aniagudo.
The students requested the authorities to install speed breakers on the roads leading to the institution to check future occurrence.
According to a witness, the deceased, a second year male student, was reportedly killed by a hit-and-run driver along the old Onitsha-Enugu road last Friday.
The witness said the deceased was crossing the ever-busy road when he was knocked down by the driver of a speeding Sienna car.
According to the witnesses, the driver sped off after the incident, leaving the deceased in the pool of his blood.
In order to draw the attention of the authorities, the protesting students who wore their nursing uniforms, carried placards and barricaded the major roads.
One of the officers of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the institution, Edeh Emmanuel, regretted that the deceased could not survive despite efforts to revive him.
“I saw it all when it happened. He was hit by the speeding sienna car, who thrown him into the gutter.
“Blood was all over his body and we used stretcher to take him to the hospital for immediate attention.
“He was provided with oxygen but he gave up at the hospital,” he said.
The Hospital Administrator, Rev. Tochukwu Okwuchukwu, said the accident was unfortunate, assuring immediate installation of speed breakers on the roads leading to the school.
.“We will build the bumps along the hospital roads as they demanded. In fact, we are starting immediately,” he said.
