NTI laments dearth of funds for teacher training

Dr. Sharehu made the disclosure at the closing ceremony of the 2013 Nationwide Capacity Building Workshop for Primary School Teachers under MDGs project held in Kaduna.
Represented by the Acting Director, Field Operation and Student Service, Dr. Dele Yaya, the DG said the responsibility to organize such workshops was full of challenges.
“We were only able to overcome the challenges by hard work and commitment to service delivery to the nation. NTI is a willing partner to deliver desirable services to promote quality education in the country.
“Kaduna State has the largest students’ population on our programme today. We are grateful for all the cooperation and patronage we have been receiving from government and wish to register our commitment to compliment government’s efforts in turning around the fortunes of the education sector in the state.
“I would like to implore other state governments to emulate Kaduna State by sponsoring capacity building workshops for their teachers,” he said.
Chairman House of Representative Committee on Millennium Development Goals, (MDGs), Alhassan Ado Doguwa, said the House is ready to partner with NTI to produce more quality teachers in the country.
“NTI has the capacity to do what it is expected to do and as lawmakers we are ready to support the institute. The MDGs project was not about building classrooms or schools but about producing quality teachers in the country. I am hopeful that by the year 2015 there will be no single child that will be out of school,” he said.
He said the MDGs are achievable as, according to him, Nigeria is the only country in Africa that achieved 80 per cent of the goals,  “We have been given award to that effect and we hope by 2015 we will all be here to celebrate Nigeria as the only country that achieved the MDGs in Africa because of our performance,” he said.
Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, who was represented by an officer in Minister of Education, Malam Dahuru Musa Anchau, commended the federal government for the series of capacity-building workshops organized for Nigerian teachers under the MDGs.
