A 2017 graduate of Theatre and Cultural Studies at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Gloria Akayi Asoloko has won the 2018 Society of Nigerian Theatre Artist (SONTA) playwright of the year.
She was announced as award winner of the 2018 SONTA/Olu Obafemi Prize for Playwriting at SONTA’s 31st annual conference held at Federal University, Ekiti State.
Gloria from Nasarawa State, is also a poet and a novelist who has had literary works across theatre and other genres of art
“Winning the SONTA playwrite prize is a dream come true. It started from my first play ‘Know Amanda’ but was later developed through the instrumentality of my lecturer, Prof. Barclays Ayakoroma when he advised me to enter for the award entries.
“It has today paid off with my announcement as the playwright of the year. This is only the beginning of more hard work. I believe that more doors would be open for me to feel propelled to come up with better works that would fetch me more awards in near future,” Gloria said, gesticulating as she demonstrated her bewilderment.
The young graduate said she would continue to portray the ills in the society through her literary works and urged all young people who are interested in writing to also read from other people’s creativity and articles, which according to her help her in composing her literary works.
