The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has partnered with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to create conducive environment for people to enjoy their rights without discrimination.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Alhaji Modu Bunu disclosed this in a statement issued after a delegation from the NHRC led by Mr. Terngu Gwar paid him a courtesy visit.
According to Bunu, NSCDC is committed to ensuring law and order, stating that the Corps is ready to partner with any lawful organization whose focus is to maintain orderliness and justice in the state.
Earlier in his remark, leader of the delegation and Chief Research Officer, Terngu Gwar, explained that the call was aimed at seeking NSCDC partnership to advance the course of human rights promotion, protection and enforcement in the State.
He noted that the increasing level of human rights violations in Nigeria is an indication of people’s lack of respect for legal institutions saddled with the responsibilities of human rights promotion, protection and enforcement.
“The experience of the way people act with impunity by taking laws into their hands made the visit and request for partnership imperative,” he said, maintaining that the strategy was to address the widening gaps in human rights service delivery in collaborating with the Corps.
