NSCDC distance self from land scam

The management of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has distance itself from land racketeering case being instituted against some of its personnel.

The Commandant General of the Corps, Ade Abolurin reiterated on Tuesday that the organisation is not involved in sales of land and has never at any point in time delegated persons, organisations or agents to do so on its behalf.

According to him; “the Corps does not have lands for sale, neither does it have any housing estate in its name.”

Abolurin stated that the mandate of the Corps as a paramilitary agency of government is to protect and safeguard the critical infrastructure of government and national assets.

“It [the Corps] does not have business whatsoever with the purported land sales and any officers culpable must be sanctioned in according to the law of the Federation,” he maintained.

The CG was responding to widely held opinion that the Corps was involve in land racketeering case in FCT and Nasarawa State.

“The Corps will like to make it unequivocally clear that the 61 houses and other property seized by the ICPC does not belong to NSCDC but rather to some indicted officers who are currently under investigation and prosecution by ICPC as the seized property are assumed to be acquired from the proceeds of the illegal land sales by the scammers.”

According to the NSCDC boss, the Corps cannot be blamed for crimes committed by individuals taking advantage of the good name the organisation has built over time to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians.

He said it was the Corps that reported the issue to ICPC in the first place, for investigation.
