No teacher has rejected transfer – Abaji NUT chairman

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Abaji branch, Comrade Mohammed Sani Loko, has said no primary school teacher has rejected transfer to another school in the area.

Speaking in an interview with our reporter while reacting to comments by the chairman of the area council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, that some teachers were not willing to accept transfers, the labour leader denied that his members rejected transfer to other schools.

“We are not against transfer as anybody that is working as a civil servant must accept transfer, but what we are saying is that the authorities concerned should follow due process,” he said.

He added that “you said you are transferring somebody based on the number of years he or she has stayed in a place of work, you should do it without any compromise or by proxy,” he added.

He said what was generating concern on the transfer of teachers in the area was the fear that the transfer may not be done transparently.

The NUT chairman, while commenting on some teachers absconding from their places of work, said it was a big challenge, adding that the union was solidly in support of the council’s move to start deductions from the salary of any teacher that absconded from his or her place of work.
