The Chairman of Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM), Dr. Saratu Binta Dikko-Audu, has explained the postponement of local government elections earlier scheduled for December 30, saying it is to allow for the amendment of some portions of the electoral law to pave way for electronic-voting.
Dr. Dikko-Audu, who stated this at a meeting with political parties and civil societies at the commission’s head office in Kaduna, said from all indications, the LG elections may not hold this year.
“We wanted to conduct the local government elections this year, and thought the amendment would have been done and assented to by the governor, but as it stands now, it is impossible for local government elections to hold in Kaduna State this year, but hopefully by next year,” she said.
