Nigerian singers who have starred in movies

We’ve seen a number of Nigerian artistes making bold movesin trying out acting in the Nollywood industry. Weekend Magazine takes a look at the few have done so successfully.

Falz has enjoyed a blossoming career over these past few years, soaring to stardom in a relatively short amount of time. The ‘Soldier’ crooner had starred in hit comedy show ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ before heading to the big screen in ‘New Money’ and most recently, blockbuster ‘Chief Daddy.’

Seyi Shay

Singer Seyi Shay made her acting debut in the 2018 movie ‘Lara and the Beat,’ a role perfectly suited for her since it was a musical in which she was able to showcase her vocals. ‘Lara and the Beat’ became one of the most talked about movies of the year.

Omawumi has proven herself to be a star not just behind the mic, but on the big screen as well. She has had roles in major Nollywood productions such as ‘Inale,’ ‘In the Music’ and ‘House of Gold.’

Banky W

This singer arguably made one of the biggest breaks into Nollywood, scoring a lead role in one of Nollywood’s most successful productions, ‘The Wedding Party,’ which was the highest grossing movie of 2016. He also clinched the titular role in ‘Up North,’ which hit cinemas only last week and is also expected to be big hit as well.

Peter Okoye

The other half of the now defunct music duo, P-Square plays a role in Genevieve’s directorial debut, ‘Lionheart,’ which has become a critical success after nabbing a deal with American streaming service Netflix and premiering at this years Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
