Kenyan born Professor Patrick Lumumba said Nigeria is holding the rest of Africa back by not providing the political and economic leadership needed to develop the continent.
Prof. Lumumba, who had previously served as the Director of Kenya Anti-Corruption and is currently the Director of The Kenya School of Laws, said “Nigeria leadership is the missing link in Africa’s greatness.”
He made the position known yesterday at the Summit of Alternatives (SOTA) convened by Nigerian civil society groups in Abuja. He joined the summit through Skype from Kenya.
The Summit of Alternatives (SOTA) which commenced yesterday has the theme “Citizens Framing the New Nigeria of Our Dream” is in line with a new initiative for citizens’ active participation in the Nigerian governance process.
Lumumba said Nigeria’s leaders must liberate themselves from shortermism and sanitize the political space for the country to grow.
