To reduce over reliance on white collar jobs, Mums Booth, a non-profit firm has organised a programme to teach children entrepreneurial skills.
The training tagged: ‘Project Start’ for children of age five and 15 is meant to serve as a life time investment for the nation.
At the one day vocational training in Abuja, the Convener, Martha Tawiyah, charged the federal government on the need to see financial and entrepreneurship education as an important part of the child’s life.
She added that the country would overcome the challenge of unemployment if it could imbibe the culture of “Catch them young,” a statement noted.
“I would want the government to see this training as an important part of the child’s life, we have a lot of adults enrolled in wrong fields today, some places in our countries we are not moving forward, like you have engineers in banks,” she said.
Tawiyah also said that aside children the organisation has also trained women.
She said: “In this edition, we are training children, that is why it is called project start for kids, because we found out that if we start early it will make a lot of difference, so we decided to do the kids edition this time around.”
The firm said 52 children were registered for the training which was to teach them to be resilient, curious, and persistent entrepreneurs.
“We will reach out to the parents to ensure they continue practicing this skills and also help guild them,” she noted.
