Mariestopes International Nigeria, an NGO working on contraception and family planning, has donated clinical equipment worth millions of naira to 50 health facilities in 14 local government areas of the Taraba.
Making the donation during a ceremony at the Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Jalingo, Mrs Modupe Dimka, the State Clinical Training Officer of Mariestopes in the state, said that the equipment, mainly autoclaves, was to prevent infection while rendering family planning services to the beneficiaries.
She explained that the equipment will enable those rendering the services to sterilize and clean the instruments before using them on women seeking family planning services..
Mrs Dimka said she was satisfied with the response to the services being rendered across the 14 LGAs in Taraba where Mariestopes was working and urged for its sustenance.
Mrs Dimka also advised families to always “have children by choice and not by chance’’ in order to improve on the overall development of the communities.
In his address earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Taraba Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Alhaji Aminu Hassan, thanked the NGO for the intervention.
He said the state government was committed to providing an enabling environment for them to continue to discharge their mandate in the state.
Alhaji Aminu Hassan called on other NGOs working in various healthcare services to come forward and partner with the state government to improve the wellbeing of the people.
The Mariestopes International Nigeria had also trained various categories of health workers, traditional and religious leaders in the state to acquaint them with knowledge and commodities involved in family planning process.
